PRESS SECTION:  X-ENIA

‘X-enia’ is the solo project of Rotterdam-based musician and recording artist Xenia Gottenkieny. Her music style can be defined as avant-pop with a dark twist..

Many people might not have X-enia on their radar yet but she’s built a considerable track record. She’s toured throughout Europe with previous bands such as Lucy, Not The Whore (psychedelic rock) and Droppings (noise rock) being their lead singer, performing live for years and recording several albums with them.

8′ is X-enia‘s first release under her own name. It’s filled with obscure experimental pop compositions reminding of Eurythmics and PJ Harvey.
Xenia has used her multiple talents to play and record (almost) all the instruments on her tracks in her home studio. Her left-hand playing on a right-handed bass guitar has given her a typical and unorthodox bass sound and together with her power-voice, leading vintage synth and strange noises into a collage of complex structured layers.

The songs on her album give us a small piece of insight in the kind of life she’s lived, inspired by her battle with personality disorders throughout the years. This has been a major influence in how she approaches music.. Making music is necessary to her. Without compromise.

X-enia’s debut CD is to be self-released on April the 28th this year
